5 Low-Prep Ideas for Fun and Engaging End-of-Year Activities

As the school year comes to a close, it’s understandable that you may be feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the end-of-year activities. But don’t stress – plenty of low-prep activities can help get your students engaged and excited for summer without taking up tons of your valuable time!

Read on to learn more about some tremendous low-prep activities that your students will love as they countdown to summer break.

End-of-Year Memory Book

If you need an activity for students that will still be “educational”, then an end-of-year memory book is a great activity! As the teacher, you pick and choose which activities the students complete over some time. The students get to be creative and engaged in an activity.

Pages for an end-of-year memory book could include about me, about my teacher, about my class, snapshots of the year, goals, letter to my future self, and so much more!

End-of-Year Slideshow

Creating activities for the students doesn’t need to fall completely on the teacher. Let your students create! One way to put them in charge is to have them work on an end-of-year slideshow. They can work in partners or groups to prepare a presentation. Have the students submit, or give them access to, pictures throughout the year. They can include quotes, memories, and even music! Take it a step further and have the students publish it to share with families.

Students Create Their Unique End-of-Year Project

As the school year comes to a close, it’s time for students to put their creativity to the test with a unique end-of-year project. Whether it’s designing an invention that could change the world or crafting a captivating short story, the possibilities are endless. This project is the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their imagination, skills, and knowledge gained throughout the school year.

Not only will it be a chance for them to display their talents, but it will also give them a sense of ownership and pride in their hard work. If they are in charge of the project and design, they will be more engaged in the activity and there will be fewer behavior issues. It’s a win-win!

Play End-of-Year Games

Come up with fun games that the students can play as a class or in teams. These games can be inside or out. The more movement and activity involved, the better!

Ideas:

  • Capture the Flag
  • Minute to Win It games
  • Silent Ball
  • Kickball
  • Favorite Games of the Class’ choice

End-of-Year Countdown

All kids (just like teachers) want to count down to the last day of school. There are so many ways you can do this. ABC countdown, balloon pop, numbers, etc. My top two countdowns are a balloon pop and punch-a-prize. I like these the most because I can strategically plan the order of the activities.
